Shekh Al Mamun was born in 1974 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He came to work in Korea in 1998. Since 2001, he has campaigned for the rights of emigrant workers. He is now a full-time cultural activist at the Asian Media Culture Factory in Korea. He directs several fiction and documentary films.
