Mardar is a delivery boy striding along Shanghai’s streets on his bike, making endless deliveries of all kinds. One day, a client asks him to work as a driver for his daughter Moudan. Mardar is involved with a criminal gang planning young Moudan’s kidnapping. Soon after, everything becomes complicated when Moudan and Mardar fall in love. When Moudan discovers who he is, she jumps into the river Suzhou. After a few years spent in jail, Mardar goes in search of her. This is how he meets Meimei, the spitting image of Moudan…
Suzhou River is a fascinating love story narrated from a subjective point of view which takes place in the small word of Shanghai criminals, where nothing really happens the way we imagine.
The locations of the film and the Suzhou riverbanks at night give the film a tone holding the audience spellbound and moved by the lyricism of such passionate and impossible love story between two persons of split personality.
