Landowner Tcheou the Skinner hoped he would not pay his farm workers. He daily goes by the henhouse and imitates the cock’s cry, though it is midnight. Thinking the cry comes from a fellow creature, all cocks start crying. Tcheou the Skinner then goes to his farm workers, who have just fallen asleep, and shouts: “Get up and go to the fields, the cock’s crying!” He is hoping that the farm workers unable to keep such pace would very soon leave. He would use this pretext to refrain from paying them their salary of a whole year. His perfidious tactic is discovered by twelve-year-old farm servant Kao Yu-Pao who informs his comrades; they decide on a plan…
