Liu Hao est né en en 1969 à Shanghai. Il est diplômé de l’Académie du film de Beijing et a travaillé comme journaliste reporter à Shanghai et à Hong Kong. Debout, son premier film a reçu une mention spéciale au Festival International du Film de Berlin et a eu un succès critique en Europe. Son deuxième film, Two Great Sheep en compétition au FICA a obtenu le Prix NETPAC en 2005.
Addicted to Love a été récompensé par le Cyclo d'Or du FICA 2011.
