An, Nhu and Phuong, three young Vietnamese women in their early twenties, have come to Japan as trainees. They are up to their eyes in work, badly paid and unable to talk to their boss who confiscated their passports when they arrived in Japan. They decide to run away and thus become illegal residents in this country. Dan, a Vietnamese middleman suggests they work for a fisherman. They will also be able to live free of charge in a shed. After a long journey by train and ferryboat, they arrive in the snow-covered landscape of the North of Japan. Phuong's parents keep on pressing her to send them money for support. Despite the illegal working conditions, the three of them feel relieved for as well as finding a job, they have doubled their pay too. Suddenly Phuong falls down on the ground, struck by severe pain. An and Nhu, who are worried, take her to hospital but she can't be admitted as she has no ID card. So Phuong starts trying to find out how to obtain forged ID papers.
