Kunchacko Boban, Vinayakan, Joju George and Dileesh Pothen form the Ayyankali Pada which holds the Palakkad collector hostage for about ten hours. They want the left-wing government to withdraw a new amendment bill which encroaches upon the rights of the adivasis (tribal people) on their land. Therefore, they lock themselves in the col- lector's office with some ammunition and they start bargaining. The government's main concern is to save face as elections are drawing near and to safely release the officer. While the "Pada" members follow the news to see how their protest is perceived, they are annoyed to discover that an official statement insinuates that the police do not know who they are or what their demands are; the government cleverly plays it to give the impression that they are the victims of terrorists.
The film is based on an incident which took place in 1996 in the Palakkad Collectorate but unfortunately, more than 25 years later, the story still seems very relevant, except that today, it can be difficult to bring together a handful of people who act selflessly to see to the needs of others.
