Kamal KM is initially a journalist at Sameeksha, a weekly political newspaper. He later joined the National Film School in Pune, and completed a master's degree in film directing in 2004. He then worked on several projects in co-direction with Santosh Sivan. He wrote and directed Alif in 2010, selected at the Mumbai International Film Festival then I.D. in 2012, selected and awarded at numerous festivals.
