King Hu was born in 1931 in Beijing. After brief studies at the Beijing Academy of Fine Arts, he arrived in Hong Kong in 1948. He made his first film in 1964, The Story of Susan. He leaves the Shaw brothers and leaves for Taiwan. Four years later released his masterpiece, A Touch of Zen, which is a commercial failure. This is the return to Hong Kong. King Hu is also a screenwriter, editor, producer and actor in nearly 40 films. He died in 1997.
