Shalahuddin Siregar was born in Blang Kejeren, a small town in the Aceh highlands. He obtained the opportunity to debut in film after becoming a finalist in, a competition for young documentary filmmakers. He participated at the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2009. He is also a script writer and photographer. The Land Beneath the fog is his first feature length documentary film.
