Lana Gogoberidzé was born in1928 in Tbilisi. After graduating from Department of Romance Languages at the State University of Tbilisi, she enrolled at the Soviet State Film school, VGIK. After graduating in 1958, she works for Gruzia Film Studios. In 1955, she wrote an essay about poet Walt Whitman. From 1958 to 1988, Gogoberidze headed Director’s Studio at the Rustaveli Theatre School, Tbilisi, in 1975 and directed the studio Kartuli P'ilmi (Georgia Film) in 1988. Her film Day Is Longer Than Night was entered into the 1984 Cannes Film Festival. In the same year, she was a member of the jury at the 34th Berlin International Film Festival. She was elected to the Parliament of Georgia from 1992 to 1995. In 2004, she served as Georgia's Ambassador to France. From 2006 to 2008, she is head of the Georgian delegation at UNESCO.
