At the age of 16, Aya, a young Cambodian peasant, was sold into slavery by a “Storm Maker” - a human trafficker – who promised her a job as a maid in Malaysia. Now back in her village, she is just as poor as when she left. Dishonored and traumatized, what is left of her humanity? Aya’s fate, intertwined with the testimonies of human traffickers, offers an unsettling view of contemporary Cambodian society.
