Da, Mom, Sinourn, Aun Thom and Mab are five women sharing a two room flat of the White Building, in the heart of Phnom Penh. It looks like a transit place, with only plastic mats on the floor. They have no possession, no savings. They are unable to project themselves into the future. The film is closely related to the life and hence spiritual death of a prostitute. The final social decline ends with the irreparable injustice of an irreversible process: the destruction of a body.
"Paper cannot wrap up embers: this sentence which is the confession of a prostitute is the title of the film depicting the tragic situation of young Cambodian women forced to sell their body because of misery, hunger, domestic violence, illness of relative, drugs… Their stories rise up here to fight the negation of the human.” Rithy Panh
