Zebercet owns a hotel in a small provincial town.He takes care of it on his own, helped by his maid, a slightly simple-minded girl who lives with him. One night, one of his woman clients leaves the hotel, promising to return a week later.haunted by the story of the beautiful stranger, he gradually lets melancholy take hold of him.
Motherland Hotel is a masterpiece that Ömer Kavur has adapted from Yusuf Atılgan’s novel. It is conspicuous also with its aesthetics. The blinding light of the outside and the gloomy light of the inside emphasise Zebercet’s trapped state of mind with a strong contrast. The mansion becomes the setting for a life story, a history. At the end of the film, wandering around every corner of the mansion, the camera leaves the audience in the mansion alone with Zebercet’s destiny, with the strong light of the outside.
