Five years ago, the inauguration of the dam of the Three Gorges took place. Towns, villages, landscapes will be drowned under the tumultuous waters of the Yangzi river. Historical buildings will be drowned or removed. Lin Liao-li feels she has to take her seven-year-old Eurasian daughter to the site and show her these treasure of the Chinese heritage, before they disappear... She is keen to make the child discover this face of China before it sinks in oblivion. She travels via Honk Kong to meet her mother. As she finds her unhappy, she decides to take her along. For her, this becomes a voyage to the source of the country she left when she fled to Hong Kong in 1957. For the first time, they are travelling together in the "veins of their motherland: China".
