Istanbul, linking the East and West, is a swirling metropolis with constant music everywhere. Alexander Hacke, who has been playing in a German avant-garde band for more than twenty years, comes to Istanbul to compose the music of the film Head-on. In the city, he meets the members of Baba Zula, a neo psychedelic band. When their bass guitar leaves them, they ask Alexander to replace him. He agrees and tries to capture the musical diversity of Istanbul, immortalises it, and allows the western audience to discover a sensual journey. Hacke then enters a singular contrasting and seducing world where he collects impressions and resonance drifting with the irresistible flow of a multi faceted city. As meetings and live recording go, from electronic sounds to rock and hip hop and unto the classical arabesques and great divas, a real cultural mosaic is engraved.
This is a valuable and moving document showing faces of Istanbul through its effervescent musical scene.
