In Laos, Anou is a textile designer for interior decoration. His excellent silks are used by stylists in Paris and New-York. Grand-son of an aristocratic family deprived of their rights, Anou fled from Laos in 1975, when the communists took power. At the age of thirty, he returns to his native land for the first time. By chance he finds his family house, of which his parents did not want to give him the address. By chance he also meets the man formerly in charge of his grand-mother's weaving manufacture. He decides to stay back, and in his turn to create exceptional silks. Thirteen years later, Anou has learnt how to weave and create colours according to Laotian traditions, and he continues to gradually untie the threads of his identity. In his studio in Vientiane, the capital, surrounded by a team of ten craftsmen, he creates motives that tell the story of the country where he was born, and explains his secrets of creation. Through the portrait of unique craftsmen like Anou, Isabelle Dupuy Chavanat and Jill Coulon sketch the outline of another world, where fabric not only rhythms with excellence, but also with respect for mankind.
